J. David Forbes, M.D., ABIHM, ABoIM, is an MD expert in the areas of stress, anxiety/depression, emotional process healing, trauma recovery, weight loss, recovery from addictions, and addressing all aspects of holistic medicine. He is a Medical Physician in Internal Medicine, Counselor, Educator, and Keynote Speaker. He is a Past-President of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM.org), the Founder of Nashville Integrative Medicine, a Founding Diplomate in 2000 of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine (ABIHM), and further Board-certified in Integrative Medicine in 2019 from the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABoIM). Required training for doctors board-certified in Holistic/Integrative Medicine includes natural, herbal, nutritional, body/mind, emotional and spiritual approaches to healing and their integration with traditional medicine.
He has over 30 years’ experience in the fields of trauma/addiction counseling, emotional process work, and meditation practice and training. Dr. Forbes’s passion is re-establishing the importance of body-centered processes in healing. He has led emotional process healing retreats for over 25 years, is a frequent keynote speaker on emotional trauma and addiction/recovery work, and trains therapists and counselors in body-based emotional healing practices. He is fully trained in PEER® Therapy (Primary Emotional Energy Recovery) by the founders Dan Jones and John Lee since 1993. He also serves as a consultant to businesses in ways to promote real, sustainable, and economically sound health change in the workplace, and was selected by the Nashville Business Journal as one of their “Health Care Heroes” for 2008.
Dr. Forbes, a native of Jackson, TN, received his M.D. from the University of Tennessee at Memphis in 1990. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine was completed at North Carolina Baptist Hospital/Bowman Gray School of Medicine (Wake Forest) in Winston-Salem, NC in 1993.
